FADU unveils FS-SSD for direct file access by accelerators
South Korean SSD controller and solutions company FADU unveiled FS-SSD at the 2026 OCP Global Summit as the world's first file-semantic SSD. Built-in file-processing firmware and NVMe commands carrying file requests let the drive understand and manage files, enabling direct communication with accelerators while bypassing the CPU, memory and software layers.

What to know
- 01
FADU plans to develop FS-SSD into DPU-based hostless storage servers and scalable file-storage solutions.
- 02
The company also showcased its PCIe Gen6 SSD controller, FC6161 Sierra, with 2.5 times its predecessor's performance; full-drive power consumption is below 28 W for sequential writes and below 5 W at idle.
Why it matters
The design focuses on the latency and CPU-load issues created by CPU-mediated accelerator file access in conventional storage.
